Please join our on-going Lunch and Learn series for a lively discussion. Guests are very welcome. Here is what Lois Keen our facilitator said about the planned discussion topic:
Are your family gatherings fraught with political pitfalls? Do you have friends you find yourself avoiding because conversation is so tense? Is social media making you just plain mad?
We may not be able to change our family members or our friends, and social media, well, it is what it is. The saying these days is that people are looking to the news and conversations to affirm what they believe. I agree.
And at the same time, it is becoming more and more important that we not so much agree, as to agree to stay together in the midst of our differences.
At the October 19th Lunch and Learn at the Oliver Wolcott Library in Litchfield, at 12:00 noon, we will talk about how our conversations with those with whom we disagree are going and reflect on how we might shape conversation that honors both parties.
LWV LC board member Lois Keen will moderate the conversation and offer a few tips. As for social media, it’s not the place to expect civil discourse, except among those with whom you already agree. But you can learn a few tips on how not to get hooked by flame-throwing exchanges.
Bring your bag lunch; come join us at Oliver Wolcott Library, Thursday, October 19 at noon. Let’s talk.
The November meeting is scheduled to be held at Oliver Wolcott Technical High
School in Torrington. Details coming.
