The November 16, 2017 Lunch and Learn, held at the restaurant at Oliver Wolcott Technical High School in Torrington, highlighted a community resource – a high school with services available to the community.
The planning included lunch at “Olivers”, the training restaurant at the school, a tour of the facilities, and an opportunity to talk with young people at the school about the importance of voting. Ten of us attended the lunch, and had good conversations over excellent food. We agreed that having lunch there in the future could be on the table. It was a good experience.
The rest of our agenda was not realized, although a few of us did have a conversation with a student on how choices for their technical discipline are made. My own reflection is that no amount of planning would have made much difference. Part of our conversation was to decide not to have a Lunch and Learn in December. We have an education opportunity in January regarding gerrymandering, and decided that the January Lunch and Learn will piggyback on that subject. A reservation at Oliver Wolcott Library has been made for January 18 at 1:00 in the community room. Hope to see you there.
